Position Summary 

The Mechanical Engineer as part of as part of a greater cross-functional team within the Design Engineering group  will design, prototype,  and release to production  enclosures and chassis for industrial electrical equipment while meeting size, weight, and thermal requirements.  This position will produce, release, and update all mechanical drawings required to manufacture the product while ensuring designs are in compliance with standards such as UL1012, CE, NEMA and IP enclosure ratings.

Responsibilities

Major Duties and Responsibilities
▪ Generate and review chassis and enclosure designs for industrial electrical equipment
▪ Participate in multi-disciplinary team design reviews of products in the design, prototyping, and production phases
▪ Prepare all related design documents such as mechanical sheet metal and assembly drawings with associated BOMs in accordance with Unitron policies and procedures
▪ Release drawing packages through Unitron’s drawing control system and ECN process
▪ Collaborate with electrical design engineers, test and evaluation engineers, manufacturing personnel, procurement personnel and vendors
▪ Correlate mechanical design requirements to electrical schematics and wire list requirements
▪ Interpret and apply industrial standards such as ANSI and ASME to enclosure and part designs
▪ Familiar with applicable enclosure requirements of UL and CE mark standards
▪ Provide technical support to Production group for solutions to manufacturing issues
▪ Perform root cause analysis and corrective actions when investigating failures
▪ Work with vendors to ensure mechanical parts are built to drawing specifications
▪ Analyze and make disposition on rejected parts and assemblies
▪ Other duties assigned

Qualifications

Qualifications 

  • Analytical and organization skills with ability to prioritize and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to troubleshoot and debug designs, then engineer and implement solutions
  • Creative problem solver with balanced view to reach practical solutions
  • Design experience in high-power electronic assemblies and packaging
  • Familiar with ERP system, BOM construction, ECN process, and ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System Familiar with configuration control processes
  • Self-starter, able to work with general supervision
  • Required computer skills – 3D modeling software(SolidWorks, AutoCAD) , Microsoft Office. Working knowledge of PDM a plus
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across multiple disciplines
  •  

    Experience 

    5 or more years related experience with industrial electronic product design and manufacturing

     

    Physical Requirements

    Must be able to climb stairs, sit, keyboard, see, hear and read/speak English fluently

    Education 

    Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited school

    Required 

    Documented US Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident status
